Hello and good health to everyone! I recently acquired a very inexpensive Bluetooth ELM 327 v1.5 OBD2 diagnostic adapter in a black casing, without the “MINI” inscription, from this online store.
Later, on a website, I read about which adapters are NOT recommended for use. It turned out mine fit into this category based on two criteria: My adapter was cheaper than $10 USD, and my adapter’s Bluetooth MAC address started with 11:22:33 or 00:00:00.
Well, I discovered this information after purchasing the adapter, on the www.carscanner.info/ru/choosing-obdii-adapter/ website. More specialized information on checking adapters can also be found here: www.drive2.ru/l/537284329445785838/
I purchased the Car Scanner Pro application for my Android smartphone from Google Play, joined the developer program to get the latest version, and then configured it as follows:
Profile settings for my adapter, working on standard 2.0 Bluetooth.
Program menu interface.
Considering that I had already performed many vehicle customizations before purchasing this adapter, I was simply curious to see if it was suitable for basic diagnostics. The adapter works. It reads and clears error codes without any issues.
From the customizations, I added the following features for my car:
- Automatic closing of side windows during rain (not yet tested).
- Service position menu for windshield wipers (working).
- Factory alarm system with horn output (working). For activation, the following conditions are necessary: factory alarm must be activated and use the horn for the alarm signal (activated). Further testing requires locking the car and removing the key fob to a distance of about 30 meters. Then, another person opens the car from the inside using the door handle and checks the horn’s operation. If the keys remain inside the car, the horn will not work! It is important that the car key is removed from the car during the test!
- Temporarily reverted to standard sound parameter №5 instead of custom №14 in the “Sound processing presets for MIB3” section. By the way, I wonder how many of these parameters are there by default?!
- Removed the AM band in the radio.
I wanted to restore the green menu, but it didn’t work. Apparently, with a software update from the official dealer, they simply removed the ability to display the green menu.
I am continuing to explore the capabilities and strongly recommend everyone to make a backup of all control units before making any changes. The second golden rule is to revert coding changes step-by-step, one at a time, through the activation history. Then everything will be okay, even with a cheap adapter for a few bucks, but this is not guaranteed.
