Xiaomi SU7 Aces C-NCAP Safety Tests with Five-Star Rating

The Xiaomi SU7 electric sedan has achieved a five-star rating in the rigorous Chinese C-NCAP safety and crash tests. Notably, the SU7 boasts the highest performance among vehicles evaluated under the stringent 2024 safety standards. This accomplishment underscores that emerging NEV manufacturers like Xiaomi are capable of producing exceptionally safe vehicles.

Xiaomi SU7: A Safety Benchmark

Launched in March 2024, the SU7 is Xiaomi Auto’s inaugural model. Its popularity is undeniable, with cumulative deliveries exceeding 186,112 units and demand consistently outstripping supply, resulting in an 11-month waiting period. The recent C-NCAP evaluation further solidifies its position in the market.

Conducted by the China Automotive Technology and Research Center (CATARC), the C-NCAP evaluates vehicle safety on a scale of 0 to 100%, translating these percentages into a star rating for consumer clarity. The comprehensive assessment encompasses occupant protection, vulnerable road user (VRU) safety, and the effectiveness of safety assistance features.

Specifically, the C-NCAP tested the Xiaomi SU7 Max, a 4WD variant equipped with Hesai’s AT128 LiDAR sensor and the advanced Xiaomi Pilot Max driver-assistance system. Priced at 299,900 yuan (approximately 41,345 USD) in China, the test vehicles were purchased anonymously from a random dealership to ensure impartiality. The SU7 Max achieved an impressive score of 93.5%, exceeding the average result of other vehicles tested under the 2024 standard by 8.7%. A standout performance in Active Safety (95.25%) highlighted the effectiveness of its Automated Emergency Braking (AEB) and lighting systems.

Occupant protection also scored highly at 94.31%. Remarkably, the SU7 excelled in VRU protection, achieving 90.42%—a significant 13.14% above average. This category assesses pedestrian leg and head protection, along with the AEB system’s performance in pedestrian scenarios. This exceptional VRU performance significantly contributed to the SU7 Max securing the highest overall safety rating among vehicles evaluated under the 2024 C-NCAP standard.

Xiaomi SU7: More Than Just Safety

Beyond its safety accolades, the Xiaomi SU7 is a spacious sedan measuring 4997/1963/1455 mm with a 3000 mm wheelbase. The Standard and Pro trims feature a rear-wheel-drive configuration powered by a single 220 kW (295 hp) electric motor. The Standard offers a 700 km range with its 73.6 kWh battery, while the Pro extends this to 830 km with a larger 94.3 kWh battery.

The high-performance SU7 Max boasts a dual-motor setup: a 275 kW (369 hp) motor on the rear axle and a 220 kW motor in the front, delivering a combined output of 495 kW (664 hp). Its 101 kWh battery provides an impressive 800 km range. The Xiaomi SU7’s exceptional C-NCAP performance combined with its impressive specifications solidifies its position as a leading contender in the electric vehicle market. This five-star rating not only assures buyers of its safety but also highlights Xiaomi’s commitment to engineering excellence in the EV space.
