Where is the Lincoln Nautilus Built?

The 2024 Lincoln Nautilus made a splash at the Detroit Auto Show, but its production location might surprise some: the Changan Hangzhou Assembly Plant in China. While this might raise eyebrows, the Nautilus isn’t the first Chinese-manufactured vehicle sold in the US. Buick has imported the Envision from China for years, and the Polestar 2 also originates there.

The Lincoln Nautilus’ Chinese Origins

The Nautilus’s Chinese production raises a pertinent question: does a vehicle’s country of origin matter to consumers? This issue carries added weight given the ongoing UAW strike, where job security is a central concern alongside demands for better pay, benefits, and the elimination of tiered wage systems.

Chinese Cars and the Global Market

The influx of Chinese-made cars isn’t limited to the US. Europe has also seen a surge in Chinese vehicle imports, prompting the European Commission to investigate potential tariffs. This global shift in automotive manufacturing underscores the importance of understanding where popular models, like the Nautilus, are built.

Quality vs. Origin: The Consumer Dilemma

Ultimately, the question remains: is a car’s quality more important than its origin? The 2024 Lincoln Nautilus boasts an attractive design, advanced technology, and two powertrain options, including a 310 hp hybrid. These features suggest a compelling package, but for some, the “Made in China” label might be a deal breaker.

The Nautilus’s Chinese production highlights the evolving landscape of the automotive industry and invites consumers to consider what factors truly matter when choosing a vehicle. Is it country of origin, quality, features, or a combination of all three?
