Unleash the Power: EQT Vortex Turbo for VAG MQB Vehicles

The EQT Vortex Turbocharger is a complete bolt-on upgrade designed for VAG MQB platform vehicles, including the Mk7 GTI, Golf R, S3, A3, TT, and TT-S. Engineered for a perfect balance of performance and drivability, the Vortex delivers impressive power gains while maintaining excellent spool and response. This comprehensive guide delves into the features, benefits, and performance capabilities of the EQT Vortex and Vortex XL turbo upgrades.

EQT Vortex: Redefining Performance

The EQT Vortex boasts brand new components and installation hardware. Its housings, modeled after the OEM IS20/IS38 turbos, ensure seamless fitment. At the heart of the Vortex lies a TD06SL2 turbine wheel (61mm/54mm) and a custom billet compressor wheel (53mm/71mm base with a 76mm extended tip). Meticulously manufactured, assembled, and VSR balanced, the Vortex guarantees exceptional quality and reliability.

On pump gas, the EQT Vortex delivers 450-480 wheel horsepower (whp), while race gas or E85 fuels unlock its full potential, pushing output to 500-560 whp. Upgraded fueling and supporting modifications are recommended to maximize performance gains.

The EQT Vortex was engineered for both street and track performance, prioritizing responsiveness and broad power delivery. Its exceptional spool characteristics and flat torque curve provide exhilarating acceleration throughout the RPM range. Designed to work harmoniously with stock engine internals and control systems, the Vortex excels in the 27-28psi range, staying within the stock MAP sensor parameters and performing flawlessly on pump gas.

The EQT Vortex’s rapid spool is showcased in the chart below, recorded on a 2015 Golf R DSG in 4th gear using E30 fuel. Reaching 27psi at just 3000 RPM and maintaining boost to redline, the Vortex demonstrates impressive responsiveness. The minimal Intake Air Temperature (IAT) fluctuation highlights the turbo’s efficiency at these power levels.

EQT Vortex XL: Unleashing Maximum Potential

Building on the Vortex’s success, the EQT Vortex XL features a larger, IS38-based turbine housing for enhanced top-end flow. While spooling 300-400 RPM later than the standard Vortex, the XL delivers an additional 20-40 whp, depending on fuel and supporting modifications. Hitting 30psi by 3400 RPM and holding up to 35psi to redline, the Vortex XL offers unparalleled performance.

With the Vortex XL, 600 whp and low-mid 10-second quarter-mile times are achievable. Holding the quarter-mile record for IHI-based bolt-on turbos on the MQB platform, the Vortex XL achieved a remarkable 10.46 @ 131.5 mph at just 30psi on a stock engine and transmission.

EQT Turbo Discharge Pipe Kit

To optimize the EQT Vortex’s performance, a dedicated discharge pipe kit is available. This package includes a 2.5″ turbo muffler delete, a 2.5″ turbo discharge pipe, and silicone hoses, maximizing flow and power potential.

The EQT Vortex and Vortex XL turbochargers represent a significant upgrade for VAG MQB vehicles, offering substantial power gains without compromising drivability. Whether you seek thrilling street performance or dominating track capabilities, the EQT Vortex series delivers.
