Adjusting Your Vortech Maxflow Race BOV: A Simple Guide

Unscrewing and removing the nut and washer from the allen set screw is the first step in adjusting a Vortech Maxflow Race Blow Off Valve (BOV). Next, unscrew the allen set screw located on the top. It’s okay to remove it completely; the valve won’t fall apart. Then, carefully screw it back in by hand until it gently touches the internal plate. You’ll feel a slight resistance when it makes contact.

Once the allen set screw is lightly touching the plate, use an allen key to turn it in precisely three full rotations. This sets the BOV to the factory specification of 4-5 inches of mercury (Hg). To secure the adjustment, re-install the washer and nut. While holding the allen set screw in place with an allen key, tighten the nut with a wrench.

This procedure, provided directly by Vortech technicians, ensures proper BOV adjustment. It’s important to understand that the Vortech Maxflow Race BOV operates differently than turbocharged BOVs. It’s normal for this valve to remain open at idle and even with slight throttle application, venting air without the characteristic “ptsshhhh” sound often associated with turbo BOVs. The valve only closes under boost pressure as the airflow draws it shut. Upon releasing the throttle, the valve reopens but without the whooshing sound. This is normal operation and not a malfunction. This information can save you time and potential frustration, especially during those late-night installation sessions.
