Maine’s Thomas Point Beach recently hosted its first annual Vag Fair, a gathering for Volkswagen Audi Group (VAG) enthusiasts. This scenic campground and park, with its quiet beach, proved to be an unexpected gem for a car show. While not the typical rowdy car show experience, the VAG Fair offered a unique atmosphere.
A Family-Friendly VAG Fair Experience
Unlike the often loud and bustling car shows with vendors and music, this inaugural VAG Fair at Thomas Point Beach was surprisingly laid-back. Organized by an enthusiast who relocated from Pennsylvania and runs a larger show there, the event showcased a diverse collection of VAG vehicles. One notable car on display was featured in a European car magazine, a testament to the quality of vehicles present. The relaxed atmosphere made it a perfect outing for families, offering a chance to admire the cars and enjoy the park’s grassy areas.
Beyond the VAG Fair: Brunswick and Portland Adventures
The day’s adventures extended beyond the VAG Fair. A trip to Brunswick’s Wild Oats Bakery provided a delicious lunch with excellent vegetarian options. Following lunch, the journey continued to Portland’s Old Port Festival. The vibrant atmosphere of Monument Square featured a live performance by Andrew McMahon, whose hit song “Cecilia and The Satellite” is a family favorite.
Old Port Festival Delights
The Old Port Festival offered a variety of entertainment, including dancers, sidewalk chalk art, and crown-making activities in the children’s area. Strolling through Commercial Street revealed a diverse array of tents, food vendors, and live music. A highlight for the youngest member of the family was an encounter with Curious George outside of Treehouse Toys. The festival provided a taste of Maine’s vibrant culture and community spirit. Even a brief visit offered a memorable experience filled with music, food, and festive crowds. A chance encounter with Curious George added a special touch to the day.
A Day of Family Fun in Maine
From the tranquil VAG Fair at Thomas Point Beach to the lively Old Port Festival, the day was a resounding success. Filled with diverse experiences, delicious food, and engaging entertainment, the day culminated in a peaceful car ride home with a sleeping child – a true mark of a perfect family outing.
