The Chinese automaker SVH has released a new pickup truck that bears a striking resemblance to the Toyota Tundra. In fact, it’s called the Tundar. This blatant imitation extends beyond the name, as the Tundar mimics the Tundra’s design, albeit with smaller and more upright proportions. The rear of the Tundar even features the word “Tundra” on the tailgate, a detail that underscores the unoriginality of the design.
Tundar’s Design and Proportions
The SVH Tundar appears like a miniaturized version of the 2022 Toyota Tundra. Its proportions are noticeably smaller, with a boxy shape and a tall ride height. The Tundar sits on 13-inch wheels, dwarfed by the significant amount of sheet metal above them. The near-vertical windshield and seemingly low ground clearance further contribute to its unique, almost cartoonish, appearance.
The Tundar’s diminutive size is further emphasized by its 1.0-liter three-cylinder Isuzu engine. The engine appears almost lost within the spacious engine bay, a consequence of the vehicle’s tall hood line. Coupled with a five-speed manual transmission, this small engine powers only two wheels and achieves a maximum speed of 62 mph (100 km/h). These specifications suggest the Tundar is not intended for heavy-duty truck tasks.
Interior and Features of the Tundar
Surprisingly, the Tundar’s interior is relatively well-appointed for a budget-friendly truck. Features include a stylish three-spoke steering wheel, a large digital instrument panel, and a bright red plastic dashboard and door trim. Circular air vents reminiscent of Mercedes-Benz designs and quilted floor mats add an unexpected touch of luxury. Air conditioning and a backup camera are also standard features.
Price and Value Proposition
Despite its $6,000 FOB price tag, the Tundar’s value proposition is questionable. Used vehicles within the same price range often offer superior engines, more comfortable features, and original designs. However, the Tundar’s undeniably unique and humorous appearance sets it apart. While it may not be the most practical or valuable choice, the Tundar’s blatant imitation of the Toyota Tundra makes it a memorable and amusing oddity in the automotive world. It might not be a true Tundra, but the Tundar certainly offers a distinct, albeit derivative, driving experience.
