The American Red Cross Rapidpass® streamlines the blood and platelet donation process, saving donors valuable time. Compatible with most mobile devices, RapidPass lets you complete pre-donation reading and health history questions online before arriving at a blood drive or donation center.
How RapidPass® Works
RapidPass technology allows you to complete the pre-donation reading and health history questionnaire on your computer or mobile device. After answering the questions, simply print your RapidPass or display the PDF on your mobile device at the donation site. Red Cross staff will scan your RapidPass, review your answers, and finalize the health history check-in process. Using RapidPass can reduce your wait time by up to 15 minutes.
RapidPass® on Mobile Devices
The mobile-friendly RapidPass offers even greater convenience. Access the questionnaire through the Red Cross website on your smartphone or tablet, answer the questions, and save the completed RapidPass on your device. This eliminates the need for printing and ensures a smooth and efficient donation experience.
More Ways to Save Time Donating
In addition to RapidPass, the Red Cross provides several other time-saving options:
- Blood Donor App: Download the Blood Donor App to schedule appointments, track your donations, and receive helpful reminders.
- Online Scheduling: Visit redcrossblood.org to schedule a donation appointment at a convenient time and location.
- Phone Scheduling: Call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) to schedule a donation appointment over the phone.
Combining RapidPass with appointment scheduling ensures the fastest and most efficient donation experience.
Eligibility Requirements for Blood and Platelet Donation
To donate blood, you must be:
- At least 17 years old in most states (16 with parental consent where allowed by state law)
- Weigh at least 110 pounds
- In generally good health
- Meet height and weight requirements for donors 18 and younger (high school students)
You will need to present a blood donor card, driver’s license, or two other forms of identification at check-in. Blood can be donated every 56 days.
Platelet donations can be made every seven days, up to 24 times per year. Because platelets have a short shelf-life of five days, frequent donations are vital to maintain a sufficient supply for patients in need.
