The journey of modifying a car, especially with a wide body kit, is more than just a project; it’s an experience. This rings true for the transformation of a MK7 GTI into a head-turning, track-ready machine using a Pandem/Rocket Bunny wide body kit. This Mk7 Gti Wide Body Kit completely changed the car’s aesthetic and performance capabilities.
The installation of a wide body kit, particularly one as aggressive as the Pandem/Rocket Bunny kit, requires meticulous planning and execution. Choosing a skilled fabricator is crucial to ensure a flawless fit and finish. For this MK7 GTI, a full metal wide body was meticulously integrated with the original GTI panels, precisely following the inner contours of the Rocket Bunny flares.
This process involved significant modifications, including cutting into the car’s body to achieve the necessary clearance for 19×11 Vossen Forged VPS-317 wheels. Properly sealing these openings was paramount to maintain structural integrity and prevent water or debris from entering the cabin. The metal flares not only provided a wider stance but also created a robust contact point for tires during aggressive cornering on the track.
The initial reveal of the in-progress GTI, equipped with its mk7 gti wide body kit, took place at Waterfest in Englishtown, New Jersey. Even in its raw state, the car garnered significant attention.
Following Waterfest, the project continued with a focus on refining the aesthetics and performance. The brown wrap was removed to showcase the original Pure White paint, and the flares were color-matched for a seamless look. The rear vents were shaved, gaskets replaced, and fasteners upgraded to stainless steel.
With the exterior nearing completion, the focus shifted to the interior. Custom fabrication played a key role, resulting in bespoke seat brackets, floor pans, a rear seat delete, and a false floor with integrated tool storage. Dimple dies were used to add a unique textured finish to the roll bar and other exposed alloy panels.
High-performance components from renowned brands like Status Racing, Rennline, and Renown were integrated to create a track-inspired interior that remained fully functional.
Under the hood, the GTI received performance upgrades including a custom intake and bottles, a Forge Motorsport intercooler with silicon piping, a Southbend Clutch Kit, a Wavetrac limited slip differential, a Leyo catch can, and BFI motor mounts. The AWE Tuning downpipe and exhaust system completed the powertrain modifications.
While an E85 tune was considered, the project retained the APR Stage 1 tune, delivering impressive power gains for a setup primarily consisting of bolt-on modifications. This proved more than sufficient for exhilarating track experiences and even a magazine cover shoot.
The finished GTI RS, showcasing its striking mk7 gti wide body kit, made appearances at various events nationwide, including SEMA 2017.
