Jeep Cherokee Slammed: Turning a Volvo into an Off-Road Beast

This Volvo 240 underwent a radical transformation from a Craigslist find to a lifted off-roader, incorporating Jeep Cherokee suspension components. Initially purchased for $675, the car lacked basic features and required extensive repairs. The owner sourced parts from a salvage yard, highlighting the ease of working on Volvos. After initial repairs, the vehicle was lowered significantly by cutting the springs and bump stops. However, this slammed stance proved impractical for off-road adventures, leading to a complete suspension overhaul.

The desire for improved off-road capability inspired a lift kit installation. Bilstein HD shocks were added to the front, along with raised coil seats, resulting in a 2.25-inch lift. The rear suspension received Jeep Cherokee front springs, providing a 2-inch lift, and Pro Comp shocks were installed for enhanced performance. This setup, influenced by another lifted Volvo, now boasts 235/75/15 Wrangler MT/R tires and an impressive 14 inches of ground clearance at the rocker panels.

This Volvo build demonstrates the adaptability of the platform and the creative use of Jeep Cherokee parts to achieve significant off-road capability. The transition from a slammed street car to a lifted off-road machine highlights the versatility and potential of the Volvo 240 for diverse driving experiences. The incorporation of Jeep Cherokee springs proves a successful modification for achieving the desired lift and ruggedness.
