Rethinking Car Entry: The Microlino’s Front Door Design
First unveiled at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show, the Microlino spent five years in development, culminating in its third and final prototype. This compact electric car features a distinctive design element: a single front-opening door, often referred to as a “froor.” This unconventional approach challenges traditional car entry and exit methods.
The absence of traditional door handles further emphasizes the Microlino’s minimalist aesthetic. Unlocking the car with the key and pressing a discreet button beneath the headlight activates the door mechanism. This releases the door, allowing it to pop open slightly, providing enough clearance to grasp and fully open it. An interior button located on the back of the aluminum handlebar offers a convenient exit mechanism.
While this front opening mechanism may initially appear unconventional, it ultimately contributes to the vehicle’s compact footprint and urban agility.
Agile Urban Mobility: Navigating Tight Spaces with Ease
The Microlino’s diminutive size and front opening door offer significant advantages in congested urban environments. Its narrow three-wheel design enables nimble maneuvering through traffic. Microlino: From Prototype to Production
Micro Mobility Systems recently established Microlino Italia to oversee production in a Turin factory. With over a third of the necessary tooling already in place, production is slated to begin in September. The anticipated retail price is €12,000 (approximately USD $14,283).
