EQT Tune: A Disappointing Experience and SneekyTune Triumph

This post details a personal experience with EQT custom tuning for a Volkswagen Golf MK7 equipped with a TPC38 turbo, highlighting its shortcomings and contrasting it with the superior service and results achieved with SneekyTune. The modifications included a TPC38 turbo, HPA HPFP, CTS Intercooler, Trackslag Downpipe, R600 Intake, and NGK RS7 1 step colder plugs. The vehicle was initially tuned with EQT custom ECU and TCU software, targeting the IS38 platform.

Initial EQT Tune Issues and Lack of Support

The first EQT revision resulted in underwhelming power and an EPC light. Communication with EQT regarding the EPC light and a high wastegate reading of 3.9v proved frustrating, with delayed and unhelpful responses. Logs were provided, but the tuner seemingly overlooked the wastegate readings. Subsequent EPC and CEL codes prompted a frantic plea for help, which finally elicited a response blaming the high wastegate reading and advising a technician inspection.

SneekyTune’s Exceptional Customer Service and Tuning Prowess

While waiting for a shop appointment to address the wastegate, SneekyTune was contacted for advice. Despite not being a customer, SneekyTune provided immediate and detailed support, analyzing logs and suggesting potential causes, ultimately pointing towards a failing wastegate. This exceptional customer service led to the purchase of a SneekyTune custom tune for the TPC38.

Performance Comparison: EQT vs. SneekyTune

SneekyTune’s initial file delivered noticeable performance gains over EQT’s second revision. After replacing the wastegate and adjusting it to 3.5v, logs were sent to both tuners. SneekyTune responded within days with a significantly improved revision, showcasing impressive power delivery. Meanwhile, EQT’s response was delayed and requested a fourth gear pull, citing lag. Reflashing back to the Eqt Tune revealed underwhelming performance and significant knock compared to SneekyTune.

Continued Frustration with EQT and SneekyTune’s Continued Success

SneekyTune continued to refine the tune, providing revisions 3 and 4 that resulted in exceptional performance. Conversations even began regarding an E85 blend for further power gains. EQT, on the other hand, continued to exhibit poor communication and a lack of proactive problem-solving. They attributed performance issues to potential boost leaks or hardware problems, despite a shop inspection confirming no issues. EQT’s requests for new logs and dyno information weeks after the initial tuning process further highlighted their reactive and inefficient approach.

Conclusion: SneekyTune’s Clear Victory in Performance and Support

This experience demonstrates a stark contrast between EQT and SneekyTune. EQT’s lack of communication, delayed responses, and inability to diagnose and resolve issues led to a frustrating and disappointing tuning experience. In contrast, SneekyTune’s exceptional customer service, proactive problem-solving, and superior tuning expertise resulted in a significantly improved performing vehicle. This comparison underscores the importance of choosing a tuner that not only delivers performance but also provides excellent customer support and a proactive approach to tuning. Ultimately, SneekyTune proved to be the clear winner in both performance and customer satisfaction.
