OEM 19 inch wheels, often called “peelers” due to their distinctive design, offer a subtle yet aggressive upgrade for Audi enthusiasts. This article explores the experience of fitting a set of 19×9 ET33 S5 peelers on a B7 Audi, covering fitment, tire selection, and overall impressions.
The wider wheels and more aggressive offset compared to stock required only hubcentric rings for a perfect fit on the B7 platform. The 66.6mm hub of the B8 S5 wheels needs adaptation to the 57.1mm hub of the B6/B7 Audis. These rings are a safe and common solution for using aftermarket and OEM wheels with differing hub sizes.
235/35/19 Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires were chosen for this setup. While this size resulted in a slight stretch on the 9-inch wide wheels and occasional rubbing during hard cornering or over bumps, it was manageable for daily driving. The overall appearance was subtly aggressive, appearing stock from a distance but revealing a flush fitment and wider track upon closer inspection.
The concavity of the S5 peelers is a standout feature. The offset and spoke design create a visually appealing depth, further accentuated by the slight tire stretch. This concavity is more pronounced than on the similar 8.5-inch wide version found on the B8 S4.
Although the peelers provided a desirable aesthetic, the owner eventually opted to sell them, prioritizing a different wheel setup. However, the experience confirmed the S5 peelers as a strong option for achieving an OEM plus look on a B7 Audi. Their OEM construction ensures durability and suitability for daily driving, despite being slightly heavier than some aftermarket alternatives.
The Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires also performed admirably during their use. They offered a quiet ride, ample grip, and an attractive tread pattern. The only drawback was their higher price point.
