The 2024 Golf Association of Philadelphia/Anthracite Golf Association (GAP/AGA) schedule is brimming with exciting tournaments, including the return of the Stroke Play Championship to Scranton. Anthracite golf enthusiasts can look forward to a year filled with competitive events at various prestigious venues.

The highly anticipated 21st Stroke Play Championship will take place on July 15th at Scranton Country Club, a challenging course known for its demanding layout and scenic beauty. This tournament promises thrilling competition and showcases the region’s top golfing talent. Other notable events include the 15th Modified Stableford Tournament at Huntsville Golf Club on April 17th, the 24th Ben Marshall Spring Four-Ball at Fox Hill Country Club on May 15th, and the 16th Spring Stroke Play at Wyoming Valley Country Club on May 23rd.

The GAP/AGA schedule also features the beloved Coal Scuttle Championships. Elkview Country Club, which broke Fox Hill’s eight-year winning streak in the Super-Senior Coal Scuttle Championship last year, will host both the Super-Senior and Women’s Coal Scuttle Championships on August 14th. The Senior Coal Scuttle Championship will be held at Huntsville Golf Club for the second consecutive year on September 10th. Finally, the 74th Men’s Coal Scuttle Championship will be contested at Berwick Golf Club and two-time defending champion Glen Oak Country Club on September 21st and 22nd.

The John Moore Memorial, a two-day, 36-hole better-ball event, will not be held in 2024. However, registration for the Modified Stableford Tournament and four other events opens March 1st at 9:00 AM.

Junior golfers can also participate in the Lawler Junior Tour, sponsored by Abington Center for Cosmetic & Family Dentistry and Community Bank. This tour, established in 1983, offers nine-hole and 18-hole events for boys and girls aged 10 to 18. The schedule for the Lawler Junior Tour will be released in the coming weeks.
