If you have a Canon MP287 printer or a printer with a scanner, you might not need special software to scan images or documents. Before you scan, you need to connect and turn on your scanner. Then, follow the instructions for either document feeder or flatbed scanning.
Note: The following options might not be available for your scanner. If these instructions differ from what you see on your screen, refer to the documentation that came with the app you’re using.
Opening the Canon MP287 Scanner on Mac
- Connect your Canon MP287 scanner to your Mac, plug it in, and turn it on.
- Choose Apple menu > System Settings, then click Printers & Scanners in the sidebar. (You might need to scroll down.)
- Click your printer or scanner in the Printers list on the right, then click Open Scanner.
If you don’t see an Open Scanner button, you might need to set up your scanner, or check the documentation that came with your scanner to see how to perform scans. For Canon MP287 specific instructions, consult your printer manual.
Scanning with the Document Feeder (If Applicable)
With a scanner that has an automatic document feeder, you can scan multiple pages at once. The same settings are used for all the pages in the feeder. If pages need different settings (for example, some are grayscale and some are color), scan them in different groups. The Canon MP287 does not have an automatic document feeder. This section applies to scanners that do.
- Place the pages in the scanner’s document feeder.
- Follow steps 2 and 3 from the “Opening the Canon MP287 Scanner on a Mac” section above.
- Select Use Document Feeder.
- If necessary, click Show Details to display more scan options. Customize settings like Kind (Text, Black & White, or Color), Resolution, and Scan To destination.
- Click Scan. The scanner scans one page at a time.
Scanning with the Flatbed Scanner on Canon MP287
With a flatbed scanner, like the one on the Canon MP287, you can scan several small images at once, save each image in its own file, and straighten images that were crooked on the bed during scanning.
- Place the item on the scanner bed. If you want to save each item in its own file, make sure there is empty space between the items on the scanner bed.
- Follow steps 2 and 3 from the “Opening the Canon MP287 Scanner on a Mac” section above.
- Deselect Use Document Feeder, if that option is present.
- Choose where to save the scanned items from the Scan To pop-up menu.
- Choose the size of the image or document you’re scanning from the Size pop-up menu. Options like “Detect Separate Images” can help with multiple scans.
- If necessary, click Show Details to reveal more scanning options, such as Kind, Resolution, and file format. Adjust as needed.
- Click Scan.
In most cases, scanned files are saved to your computer. To find out the exact location where files are saved, or to choose a different location, see your scanner documentation. Also see your scanner documentation for information about how to save scanned files in a specific file format for emailing or transferring to other people. For the Canon MP287, you can usually find this information on the Canon support website.
