It’s not often that I will write a review on a product that I have purchased as long as 11 years ago. But by now I have used this product many times on several different vehicles (1998 Honda CR-V, 2002 Honda Accord, 2015 Honda CR-V, 2015 Mazda 3, 2016 Hyundai Sonata, 2018 Honda CR-V, and more) and have some thoughts to share based on my usage of this scan tool over 11 years.
First of all, this thing, even though plastic, is plenty durable. I have had this device stashed in the back of various vehicles for years, getting knocked around, heated in the sun, frozen in the cold, jiggled millions of times over millions of Chicago potholes, etc. And what I can report is, it still works just as it did on day one. Quite durable.
Secondly, know that this is a very very basic ODB2 scan tool. Nothing fancy here. For example, it will display trouble codes such as P0301, but it won’t actually tell you what P0301 means. But you could then pull out your smartphone, open a browser, and search “P0301 trouble code” and see all the details about what that code relates to and what might be triggering that trouble code. So, it’s a little more work than having the description displayed right on the device. But, that’s the tradeoff for the very inexpensive price. But then again, if you spent a bit more to buy a code reader that did display the English description for the trouble code, it most probably still won’t tell you what might be triggering it, and you’d still have to research on the internet to get that information anyway. Consider: How often do you expect to use this device? If only every several months or so on average, then it’s really not a big deal to have to look up the trouble code on the internet in order to obtain the code description and possible causes. And for the low price, that’s an acceptable tradeoff for me.
Thirdly, the menus take a little practice to figure out how to navigate them and find things, but you’ll catch on in a minute or two of playing around with it. Just pay attention to what the screen is displaying before you hit the next button, and you should do fine. Don’t just start hitting random buttons because you feel like you don’t know what you’re doing. That’ll just leave you lost.
Aside from that, I have found this to be a very durable and reliable tool, and have gotten my money’s worth out of it many times over already. For that reason, even if it’s not anywhere near the fanciest and most capable of scan tools, it earns 5 stars from me. IF you need only a basic tool and at the lowest price point, this one is a good choice, and I can recommend it after 11 years (and counting) as a satisfied user.

Used on my 2012 Ram 1500. Was easy to use. Diagnosed the problem and I fixed myself. Worth the small price to save a lot of money.

if your looking to clear a code, this is your bottom basement priced item, it does not read all of my codes on my 2014 2400 diesel… even though it is ODB2…
The Good,
small, light weight,
easy to use ( more so because its limited with two buttons )
does not require power ( some other units need AA’s )
the Bad,
the first time I plugged this in and turned the truck to on/acc all of my gauges flipped on off on off and the truck basically flipped out, turning off and removing the connector and re-seating fixed the issue ( i would have been pissed to break some thing electronic for the proverbial 19.95 deal…
i’m having a injector issue with my diesel, my other code reader ( now located and out of storage ) reads the code, this code reader just says 1 fault and N/A as the code. this is an ODB2 code that is being thrown… do I expect this 20.00 to compare to my 200.00 reader, no and it doesn’t even come close.
Bottom line,
as most of the auto parts stores will read your codes, and if your trouble shooting and it keeps coming back up i would say thing is ok / hey its your 20.00… to keep clearing the codes… if you are having a common problem it may pick it up ( assuming it ODB1 / 2 compliant ) but there is a lot of stuff this won’t pick up… so just be aware what you need it for. its not the deal of the century with all the software packed into a better, fast high speed low drag package.
would I do it again, maybe , I cleared the code as required… amazon is good about returns if it will not work for you with your case. For me , I’m putting this up in the 19.95 lesson learned category it will end up in some tool box some place…- try this one with possible limited results or else buy the better one…
